The castanets music bring their Spanish character, as in Bizet's Carmen, Spain Rhapsody - of Chabrier, and ballet El Cid by Massenet. They help set the mood of the scene, in the Dance of the Seven Veils in "Salome" by Richard Strauss. Britten used them in his "We make an opera", which mimic the cry of a bird in the night. Also frequently used to support the rhythmic structure, and the Third Piano Concerto Prokofiev. The castanets are considered the most sophisticated percussion instruments.

The study with this method is very effective to get familiar with the difficulties of reading music, it is not necessary to address the intonation. This study facilitates better understanding and rhythmic justness of writing for other instruments besides the rhythm, have the problem of tuning.
